Waiting for the end of installation, so few minutes to introduce myself.
I am not really new to linux, my first try was with red hat 5.1. Few months before installing my first debian (potato . The old and hardcore time to install on a laptop.
I never quit linux (and some BSD) since then nor buy/install a win/mac computer and have tested a lot of distros. My favorites still are gentoo for ease of admin and debian for stability and of course the huge software repos.
So why LM today ? For my own use, I would stick to gentoo, but I also administrate a bunch of computers for others (wife, mothers and grand mothers and some other friends) for years and they all use gnome.
Debian oldstable is not supported anymore and mate testing debian version is still too buggy. I could switch their computers to xfce, but too much time to be spent to learn them again the basis, so let's continue with mate.
It tooks me some time to choose between centos 6 (gnome 2 original) and LM (mate - 14.04 LTS). I definitely need a LTS support (2020 for centos vs 2019 for LM). Hard choice. LM wins only because of handbrake support.
I hope I did the correct choice. Installation is finished on my wife's computer. Let's test !
I am quite confident for their uses of the desktop. My concern is more about the long term remote admin. I rembember very bad experiences while upgrading ubuntu version in cli. Hope it has been improved and I will not have to re-install everything again in 2019.
Anyway, I should be a member of this community for next years. So, Hi everybody

From a technical point of view it’s no longer tied to the Ubuntu schedule, so it could be released at any time, there’s no technical relevance between 14.10 and 17.1. Now, with that said, the 6 months cycle gave us rhythm and although quality and content dictate releases going public or being held back more so than dates or vague deadlines, the idea of a late November release is still there within the team and it helps us working towards that target.
