i've been a windows user all my life and dabbled with mint about 3 years ago, but i've finally changed to mint after trying win 10 and it screwed up my machine! everything i now use is available in some shape or form via linux, so i see no reason not to change.....

Re: hi all
Hello,
Welcome. I've used Linux Mint for over two years. Some quick tips: Install a good restore program, which is great when you are experimenting with your core machine and end up screwing things up so badly you are forced to do a clean install. I use Timeshift. It takes a snapshot of a previous good system status, which you can easily revert back to. http://www.unixmen.com/timeshift-restor ... ous-state/ Familiarize yourself with the command terminal, and a text editor. I use Gedit.
I'm using Virtualbox to run windows 8.1 Pro for AutoCad, and Mathlab which I use for school, as well as TI-Connect and a TI-84 emulator. If i did not need these programs for school, I would not use windows at all.
Of course, everyone's experience with Linux is different, and so are their preferences. My tips may not work for you, and I encourage you to explore as many options as possible regarding back-up and restore options, learning the command line syntax, as well as Linux bash scripts, and viability of VM ware. What remains a constant is the excellent advise and feedback found in this forum, therefore I encourage you to visit often, participate where you feel qualified to do so. And finally, if you have not already, donate $$ to the mint project, however small. http://www.linuxmint.com/donors.php
