I'm Ronan,a total newbie from Belfast.
Hope to get a wee bit more knowledge from this forum as i'm a complete technophobe.

By the way....where is world is the main body of linux users ??

Hi Ronan, and warm welcome to the Mint community. Linux users are spread all over the world. The majority of the Mint users that are registered with the community seem to be from here in the US. Of course the genius behind Linux Mint, Clem, lives right there in Ireland. Poke around the forums, never be shy about asking for help, and have fun with Mint.

Hi Ronan. Don't be put off at not having much knowledge. I've found this forum to be full of friendly folk, all of whom are willing to help people like you and I.

Are you using Mint yet? If so, how have your experiences been to this point?

I'm a real PC dinosaur....but i'm more than satisfied with Mint.

The problem i have is that i like to fiddle with settings etc...when i've no idea what they do.....and usually end up crashing the system.

But for now....can't complain !!

welcome to mint, I think you'll find this a friendly place. Especially for dinasaurs who like to tinker

To keep myself on the straight & narrow,i've made my desktop as minimalistic as possible........necessary shortcuts,only the clock in the panel & i've kept the mint menu well "hidden" away so i can't cause catastrophe !!!!!

It's a really boring desktop but it'll keep my roving fingers from doing damage !!

I agree.....but the last time i fiddled,i managed to fry the hard drive and windows,costing me £100 in repair.....and that is how i came upon Linux.

Don't take this the wrong way:
The complexity (in my eyes anyway !) of the system ie terminal instructions,which hark back to the old days are a God send.

I'm that lazy and scared when it comes to learning that it makes life so much easier and safer to keep things ultra simple.

No, just careful. I think you will see over time as you read the forum posts, you will become more comfortable with the idea of tinkering.

Somewhere on the Forum I saw the amended version of the above (and one day I'll probably find it again,but I'm not holding my breath)
It defines the Clever Linux Adventurer
Only difference being he or she makes a back up copy of their files first....
