Hi to All! I am Rolf from QLD Australia and need to learn Linux besides my usual windows. Question. I purchased a VM Workstation so I can run both windows and Linux. If I download Mint 10, how will I get it to open in the workstation? Anyone?

Welcome Rolf.

I'm not clear what you mean be a VM Workstation. But if you mean a Workstation dedicated to running VM's, then it's a simple as just installing Mint in a VM

Hello Rolf,
Welcome to Mint Forum :P
I think the best place to start is with the user guide from here http://www.linuxmint.com/documentation.php
You will find a lot of tutorials here http://community.linuxmint.com/
There is also a lot of information for new users here -> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 58#p302358
Have fun with Mint

Thank you for the welcome Oscar and the ref to the learning page. I just wonder if I need the Virtual machine workstation at all? Mint is going to partition the hard drive for me. Is that right?
P.S. sorry for the late reply as my job involves traveling a fair bit!

A Virtual Machine is where you have a main OS running (HOST). That could be Mint or a Windows OS.
Then you use software, like VMWare or Virtual Box to create Virtual Machines.

That is a Virtual Hard Drive where you can install another OS. It uses HD space from your real HD, allocates it to the VM. The VM runs as a (GUEST) in the (HOST).

Q. Are you saying that I do not need the VM if I have Mint first and that Mint will divide the hard drive from the Windows OS?

You can dual-boot Mint with Windows
Here's a tutorial - there are lots more online including video ones on Youtube
