Not exactly new but . . .

Postby Eggnog on Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:21 pm

. . . it's been awhile. I started out with Cassandra and while I was using Gloria real life got in the way and I kind of dropped the whole linux thing for a while. But now I've returned and am loving it.

I've installed Julia on a dual boot with Win 7, using the windows boot loader so I don't booger up any Win updates, with Mint as the default boot. I'm amazed I actually remembered to use boot, root, swap and home directories when I was partitioning. I managed to install VMware Player upon which I installed a spare Win XP I had laying around (I need it for Quicken and Netflix streaming; Quicken just isn't stable for me in Wine). Julia is rock solid so far, as I would expect.

Now I don't need to boot into Win 7 at all, but it's there for whatever. I've forgotten how much I really, really enjoy Mint. I think I'm going to become a minor sponsor. It's the least I can do to show my appreciation.

A quick question, though. I have LMDE installed in a VM in Win 7. Seems to run just fine for me, although I was a bit reluctant to use it as a main OS just yet. Is Mint moving toward being based directly on Debian rather than Ubuntu? Just wondering.
