I was persistent, with you, Mint. A while back I used Mint 9 and installed on 3 different computers. One laptop could not get wireless... never did fix that. Then on my main computer, the installing inside windows (wubi) option failed to install properly because of something to do with not being able to recognise its own boot loader on a drive other than C. BUT. I no longer use that laptop for linux, and I have a bigger drive for C so I can install wubi properly.
So now I have you on my main computer again. Happy as can be! Compiz and Emerald work fine, have Pidgin which is awesome, Thunderbird is epical, and it plays all my music and movies juuust fine. As I am a gamer, Windows will still be a part of my computing, but now I have an alternative... a good alternative... for everything else.
