New Mint Convert

Hello everyone
Thanks for allowing me to join your community I'm very new to Linux in general having installed ubuntu 11.04 on my pc for the first time about a month ago and enjoyed the experience until the upgrade to 11.10 and that insane desktop (which I know I was never going to get used to) although I probably would have stuck with it a while longer had it not also screwed up so much of my system and was forced to make a decision on whether to try another distro, or give up on Linux altogether, I eventually decided to try Mint and I'm glad I did it, it feels like I've escaped from the mad house and it sorted out all the problems I was having since the 11.10 upgrade, I do however have one or two minor problems with Mint I'm hoping some of you guys can help me with in the forums.
