Hello to you all there.
I have recently set up my home computer with Linux mint 9. I have been on the XP since 2004 and was relatively fine until recently I have been inundated with updates and the system was slower and slower. Plus I changed some hardware and the OS was freaking out that I had to re activate it or else. I felt so sick of being dictated to and paranoid I would get in trouble I made the leap of faith. I had heard of Linux many years ago when I was did a basic IT course at TAFE but I was scared that I would need to know so much about command line or terminal I was not confident. But now it seems that my fears were unfounded the mint 9 is lovely, and is supported for the next few years. I am so glad to be able to just do what I need and want to do without the thought police on my back. From freedom definitely comes elegance. I enjoy playing old Amiga games and was delighted to find an emulator available, plus my favorite rocks and diamonds was easily found and installed. Email is the same and I can access my Uni site just the same. At college I hear other students talking about PC or Mac like they are the only ones around. I now know there is definitely a third contender with so much choice it would spin their heads. I am not a power user but it has all the power I need to do what I want and it boots up in 29 seconds. Thanks to Linus Torvalds and all who of you for carrying on the fine tradition of free thinking.
