Mate 1.6 Available
Hi all,
Mate 1.6 is now available in the repo ! Use the update manager and enjoy he latest Mate release. What's new ? Check http://mate-desktop.org/2013/04/02/mate-1-6-released/
After upgrading, you can safely clean old mate packages (suffix : 1.4.0-1+wheezy), by the way it's not mandatory.
Also, you'll find the latest Firefox and Thunderbird, I added them in the repo yesterday.
Please feel free to share your experience here

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
I see the updated mintMenu is still only in the Romeo repository. That means if I upgrade now with Romeo turned off (and I don't use it), I'll lose mintMenu as the old version is not compatible with MATE 1.6.
But it may be recommended: http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=869&start=110#p6212wavespot wrote:After upgrading, you can safely clean old mate packages (suffix : 1.4.0-1+wheezy), by the way it's not mandatory.

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
After the update to 1.6 (about 80 MB), I miss the Menta new default theme apparently :
(As described here : http://mate-desktop.org/2013/03/26/new-themes/ )
I will try and download Menta manually...
Thanks for adding 1.6 to the Repositories !!

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
Ok, downloading the package "mate-themes" solved this...
(I switched back to TraditionalGreen theme anyway.)
But this package should be mandatory indeed when upgrading to MATE 1.6 - as suggested here :

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
Hi Jerom,
The defaults for mint should be in mint-artwork-mate, make sure you upgraded it to version 1.1.4.

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
Nope, mint-artwork-mate was not installed by default on my LMDE-MATE-64bit-201303...
(Might be a repository problem ? It said "last version"=1.1.0 on my german server froonix.org but switching back to the main server gave v1.1.4 correctly now. I might have messed with my Repos... Sorry.)
I hope my remarks can help, thanks for your (god-sent) reply & congrat's4Mint !

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
I understand the situation with the panel layout and the GTK+ theme - mint-artwork-mate wasn't installed at all so I just lost the settings.
But I can't figure out why some other settings (like additional keyboard layout or mate-terminal preferences) weren't converted.

This seemed to be not enough for my system, as mate-conf was installed before the upgrade. I also checked that mateconf-gsettings-data-convert service is in the automatically started apps. Have I missed anything?Unfortunately, due to migration to GSettings, you will lose your current panel layout.
All other settings will be migrated if you have MateConf 1.4 installed.
Re: Mate 1.6 Available
I'm not sure Monsta. A lot changed in MATE 1.6, it's a huge upgrade in the backend... half of the backend MATE libs and components were removed. Migrating mintMenu for instance was extremely tedious. Of course, if that means MATE is easier to maintain and the devs can focus on innovating and fixing bugs, that's definitely worth the hassle of going through a difficult upgrade.
Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question. The best thing to do if you want to know why some of your settings were left out would be to connect to #mate on freenode and to troubleshoot there.

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
Hi everyone!
Earlier this week, I updated a friends computer, which is running LMDE with the MATE updates that were in the repos. After rebooting the computer, all of the Mint enhancements are gone and I was left with the original MATE layout, namely menus at the top and a bottom panel. Could anybody please advise how i can get the old setting back, since my friend now has gotten very used to the Mint version and has a hard time adjusting to the changes.
If this issue has come up before, I do apologize for the double posting. Browsing the forum, I wasn't able to locate anything about this problem.
Thanks a bundle for you any suggestions you may have.

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
I just re-arranged the taskbar at the bottom myself after migrating to MATE 1.6.

(Or you should be able to drag-and-drop items like the menu or date/time from the top taskbar to the bottom taskbar , before deleting the top taskbar ...)

Re: Mate 1.6 Available
I can't get compiz to run at startup now. "compiz -replace" in a terminal window works. But running it as a command in startup applications doesn't. And I have compiz set as the window manager in mateconf. But I guess that's been deprecated? Does this have to do with the move to gsettings? Is there a way I need to set compiz as the window manager in gsettings?
Also, isn't there supposed to be a new dconf-editor that's the gui frontend for gsettings? This package doesn't seem to exist for LMDE.
Thanks for any help.
