Libc version too old

Post by Dubslow »

Hello guys,

I've been wondering if I haven't been getting updates properly.

Last semester (May or so) I was using Steam and playing games just fine. I hadn't used GNU-Linux over the summer, and over the last week I've been trying to get back to using it because of school; however to my shock, none of the games worked anymore, because of this error: "bin/sh: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /home/bill/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so)".

Why would Steam increase their libc version requirement, and more importantly, why is my install still stuck on 2.13 even though Debian testing is way up at 2.17?

The following is my /etc/apt/sources.list:

Code: Select all

deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://mirror.metrocast.net/linuxmint-debian/latest testing main
deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://mirror.metrocast.net/linuxmint-debian/latest/security testing/updates main
deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://mirror.metrocast.net/linuxmint-debian/latest/multimedia testing main

deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free

#deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free

#deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free
I tried some of these things:

Code: Select all

mint-choose-debian-mirror

So perhaps you can see why I'm confused. I have found instructions on how to manually install libc2.15 or 2.17, but I'd prefer to figure out why mine is so far behind before trying to fix it.

(Additionally, for no reason whatsoever, Chromium has stopped working today; it freezes when it starts, regardless of how I start it.)

Thanks,
Dubslow

UP was made around 9 month ago and it haven't been updated since then. if you want to get newest lib you can either wait till we get next UP or move into testing.
