After UP8 upgrade problem

Postby gromada on Tue Feb 04, 2014 4:54 pm

Upgrade went very well, but now I can not update repository.

If I stay with default repositories (UP8 info), I've got:
# apt-get update
Ign http://linux-mint.froonix.org debian InRelease
Ign http://dl.google.com stable InRelease
Hit http://repo.mate-desktop.org jessie InRelease
Get:1 http://linux-mint.froonix.org debian Release.gpg [198 B]
Hit http://lmde-mirror.gwendallebihan.net testing InRelease
E: Release file for http://lmde-mirror.gwendallebihan.net/l ... /InRelease is expired (invalid since 50d 11h 51min 3s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.

If I change them into
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
I've got:
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

What can I do to fix it?
Thanks

If I put into /etc/apt/sources.list only:

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import

than there's no error and many packages needs to be upgrade, but I don't now if the system would be stable and if this is correct way to solve the problem?

Wouldn't it be easier to read the UP8 announcement to find out which mirrors are safe to use?

If you had opted the mirrors during update, after that you must return to the official repositories since that is the default. Then do a apt-get update to see if it was a temporary issue you faced. If there is still any error we can try to fix it.

no sources.list file !?

Postby abtygwyn on Wed May 28, 2014 6:40 pm

Bought a new laptop and installed LMDE on it using the latest download. Had to use a USB stick since I couldn't find a DVD. No problem seems to work, but I noticed that I no longer have the normal sources.list file in /etc/apt/sources.list

I do have an official-package-repositories.list which resides in sources.list.d

Is this set-up sustainable or do I need to create a sources.list file?

Thanks

Yes, it's fine. LMDE uses the sources.list.d (where you can put one or more text files containing lists of repositories) instead of a single sources.list file.
