Not here, unfortunately. There's definitely something wrong with font rendering. Some applications just look bad. See the attached images. The up4.jpg image is from my old setup with Update Pack 4 and up5.jpg is from a clone of that setup on another partition, upgraded to Update Pack 5. The positioning of the characters is off on UP5.squeezy wrote:First re: font rendering, my eyes might have been tired yesterday when I reported a degradation. Today the fonts look just fine, as good as they did with the Ubuntu font files under UP4.
Other than that, it feels like the whole font rendering is 'faint' somehow. On close inspection of the screen there doesn't seem to be any real difference, but that's the overall impression I get when I look at the screen.
More madness: my old preferences for screen shots are ignored. Actually, I can't even set them. Press Alt+PrintScreen and the screen shot is dumped somewhere, without any message and with an English name instead of a localized one. I eventually found it in my pictures directory, which is NOT where I want a screen shot I need to work with!
With regard to what I wrote earlier about the illegible white on grey text in the logon dialogue window: this morning when I booted the UP5 partition, I was greeted with an entirely different dialogue box, with white on black text. It had a Gnome Shell look and feel. No idea where that came from, but the useless dialogue box is gone, so no more complaints there.
Edit: well, that didn't last long. The useless dialogue box is back. Time to get rid of some more linuxmint overrides...
Which reminds me, the overrides system should be changed to check whether the files it wants to overwrite have been modified by the user. Bluntly destroying peoples' own settings is not done.
