Blank screen after install

Postby rick0612 on Wed Apr 25, 2012 8:08 pm

Hi all,

My specs:
HP Envy 14
Hybrid graphics Intel HD/ATI Mobility Radeon 5650

I downloaded and booted the LMDE 201204 live DVD.
Everything looked good (wireless, sound, graphics, etc) so did an install.
Booting into the installed system:
Text splash screen
Let the system boot the default
Text about i915 failing to find symbols and something (too fast to see)
loud beep
then nothing.

Tried nomodeset in command line
System complained about unrecognized command

Tried xdriver=no/vesa - no help
Tried xdriver=no/intel - no help
Tried xdriver=no/radeon - no help
Tried xdriver=no/ati - no help
Tried radeon.modeset=0 - no help

How do I find out what graphics driver the live dvd is using?
Can I force that driver in the install?

NOTE: Installed PCLOS and Mint 12 with no problems.

Thanks
Rick.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I don't know if that's possible or a good idea but could you deactivate one chip in BIOS?
Don't know if this fits but look also here: http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebian ... n%202020ep

Look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log to get informations.

Either you use a xorg.conf or try to install a proprietary driver.
