LMDE Install issues

I used unetbootin to create a live boot flash drive, that works on other computers, but when i try to boot it on my Alienware machine it will not work; the screen strobes. any help in getting around this so i can install LMDE would be great.
CTRL+ALT+F1 doesnt drop me to console, just a blank screen.
