linux-kernel-rt

Post by bigbenaugust »

Is anybody else using the linux-kernel-rt package? I accidentally discovered it the other day and am trying it out on a couple of machines.

Code: Select all

ben@nicodemus ~ $ sudo aptitude search linux-image-rt
i linux-image-rt-amd64 - Linux for 64-bit PCs (meta-package), PREEMPT_RT
ben@nicodemus ~ $ uname -a
Linux nicodemus 3.2.0-3-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Jun 28 10:46:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I know Arch gives the PREEMPT kernel by default and OpenSUSE offers the "desktop" kernel which has PREEMPT enabled.

Apparently, this kernel package is new in Debian Testing (Wheezy). Could this be used as a better-performance alternative to the stock Debian kernel and a better-supported alternative to the Liquorix kernel?
