LMDE installation on a Notebook - problems

I'm trying to install LMDE on a Samsung Notebook - no CD/DVD-drive, no USB boot. The only way of installation is via network.
My PC has a functioning PXE installer with a tftpboot partition and DHCP server configured to serve to the notebook's MAC address.
I've downloaded the 201204 32-bit DVD/USB hybrid ISO to my PC, copied it to the tftpboot partition and set up links to the isolinux folder, etc.

When I link the two machines and power up the notebook the PXE connection starts but then fails with the message:
"Failed to locate CD-ROM device"

I've tried modifying 201204's isolinux.cfg from:
"label live
menu label Start Linux Mint
kernel /casper/vmlinuz
append boot=live config initrd=/casper/initrd.lz live-media-path=/casper quiet splash --"

by adding "file=/cdrom/preseed/mint.seed" to the append line:

"label live
menu label Start Linux Mint
kernel /casper/vmlinuz
append boot=live config initrd=/casper/initrd.lz file=/cdrom/preseed/mint.seed live-media-path=/casper quiet splash --"

But that makes no difference.

How do I get the DVD/USB ISO recognised?

No, more's the pity, only the HD or network.
I can only attach an external CD/DVD or HD through USB and the notebook BIOS doesn't recognise anything attached through USB on power up.
