Latest ISO Gnome 3 LMDE64

Post by rdonnelly »

At the main download page they only have Mate and Cinnamon. I have been using gnome 3 for a year, and with extensions I am quite happy with it. So where is the latest 64 bit gnome 3 spin?

I downloaded Linux Mint "Debian" - 201012 Gnome 64-bit here http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=75 but after I installed it, it was gnome 2.30.2?

Well, I have a new Laptop, and I want to get going with it, but I am kind of confused? This is what I have http://www.ebay.com/itm/261203830945?ss ... 1497.l2649

Does it have EFI? I had to go into bios and set the boot to legacy to use a USB Unetbootin image. Also the Windows 8 did not show up on grub, I like to have a copy of Windows in case I have some hardware that does not cooperate with Vbox Windows?

I hope some one can set me straight here? :?

I see the ISOs here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 21#p700821

I do have LMDE64 on a CD, but the files are dated 2010? Maybe I should intall that? I might set the Dell back to secure boot and see if Windows will boot?

The only two DEs continuing to be developed for LMDE are Cinnamon (which uses the Gnome 3 shell) and MATE.

Yeah, that is the confusing part, I have Gnome 3 on my desktop with no Cinnamon or Mate, I think I got there through upgrades from Gnome 2? I was able to get Windows to boot by turning on secure boot in the bios, so just a matter of finding the latest gnome 3 distro?

the iso yo've downloaded is an old one made in 2010. that lmde version is still using gnome2. if you want to use gnome3, I suggest to download the newest one. the number on the iso file is the date when it created. the newest one should be named 2013xxxxx or something like that.

If I could only choose between the two I'd go with Cinnamon, but it's based on Gnome 3, which makes it a bit of a cpu hog on lighter kit.

OK, all installed and running fine, I forgot that you can just choose Gnome at the Login prompt?

Plus I had to install gnome from package manager. I pretty much got used to Gnome 3 and with the extensions it is very usable.

You want to see a crappy GUI, you should take a look at Windows 8 on this laptop?
