Black screen after login
Just downloaded LMDE Cinnamon x64 edition and installed it on my PC with Intel CPU with built in Intel HD4000 GPU
When I try to login first time after the install all I get is a black sceen with the cursor. Nothing else
How do I fix this?

Maybe the videocard is too weak for Cinnamon. Try MATE.
Re: Black screen after login
I hope you are kidding. It works when I boot the live DVD but after a install this happens.Monsta wrote:Maybe the videocard is too weak for Cinnamon. Try MATE.

never heard HD400. do you mean HD4000? anyway, we might need to know your hardware configuration. on livecd please run 'inxi -F' and tell us the result.Just downloaded LMDE Cinnamon x64 edition and installed it on my PC with Intel CPU with built in Intel HD400 GPU

Re: Black screen after login
Could be graphics related, but if nomodeset does not work I would suspect it has to do with EFI. Motherboard specs say it is "dual UEFI", whatever that means. I think EFI is the more likely explanation if it is working fine via DVD but isn't booting once it is installed.

I installed via USB.Aristotelian wrote:Could be graphics related, but if nomodeset does not work I would suspect it has to do with EFI. Motherboard specs say it is "dual UEFI", whatever that means. But now I have Mint 16 Cinnamon up and runing so I think a stick to that
Re: Black screen after login
I think it's not graphical or EFI issue. the LMDE current iso is using kernel 3.2 with known issue related with ivy chips. if you really want to use LMDE you can try it again later when the new iso arrives. there are other solution i.e: mintify a debian testing or migrate from solydxk but these solution isn't easy and not recommended for average user.
Re: Black screen after login
Hi,
Sorry about this, we added some info on http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_debian.php
The solution is to reinstall "mint-meta-debian-cinnamon".

Re: Black screen after login
Thats sounds exactly like my problem. During the install it took very long "localising install" (or something like that).clem wrote:Hi,

I will try once more to night

And after you reinstalled Cinnamon, don't forget to resume the upgrade:
Code: Select all
apt dist-upgrade
