Hello all. Fairly new to GNU/linux.
I installed and run LMDE MATE on my old Inspiron laptop and getting used to it.
My wife just got a lenovo ideapad and wanted Mint on it.
I installed Linux Mint over the existing Windows 8.1, and it booted right up. However that was a mistake on my part: I had wanted LMDE, so I burned the the LMDE MATE iso to the flash drive and installed it iover the Linux Mint.
The problem: The install went fine, but LMDE won't boot. The boot menu comes up after startup, I select LMDE, and then nothing.
I then downloaded the LMDE MATE iso. from other mirrors, just to make sure, and reinstalled twice more, but the same thing happened:
I did try to find mention of this on the forum, but could not find anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Zem

Re: LMDE wont boot up after intall on Lenovo ideapad
In Lenovo you need to install with UEFI mode, and grub have to install to the efi-partition. From bios settings you need to change boot order between windows boot loader and linux boot loader after installation. F12 gets you to the bios settings.
If there has no any windows files left, you can use bios mode over UEFI of course. In the bios mode, grub must be installed to MBR (sda mostly).
Boot Repair can be handy.
