Boot from USB

I was trying to put the iso to usb and install it to my laptop but I couldn't. How do you I install LMDE from USB?

dd if=linuxmint-debian-201009-gnome-dvd-i386.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M;sync

This would not boot.

I second using unetbootin - I had no problems whatsoever installing LMDE this way.

I was being driven crazy because with several (recent) installs of Debian Testing (and derivatives) , I'd throw the .iso on a USB stick with unetbootin, and while the "live" piece would run great, the installer would look for - and of course not find - the CD ROM. Ended up using CDs, but it was an unnecessary hassle.

Also agree with Unetbootin.

Remember: Unetbootin will not set the partition on the USB stick as bootable. This can be done with gparted, though.

GRUB doesn't care if the partition is marked as bootable or not. That's an NTLDR problem.
