LMDE 201204 RC Boot Fails

boots and installs fine in Vbox, and on my mini itx system with a Geforce 520TI no problem, but on my main system will not boot in either normal or failsafe modes, I have the same problem with the 201109 release as well.

System:
AMD FX-4100
Gigabyte GA890 MB
16gig Corsair Vengance PC1600
750gig Hitachi Sata
Geforce 550TI 1gig DDR5

Using a Debian live disk I can boot fine and just about any other distro is the same, all versions of Linux Mint fail the same way, I have LMDE UP3 installed by going back to the 201112 disk, is there some way we can get that live boot configuration working again? seems strange the old config boots and the newer one fail.

6 failures so far in Vbox for the upgrade so I'm not so confident doing that with my current system....

I hope this helps spur some changes for RC1 and on...

We need more info. I guess you mean when you choose in Grub it will boot to a black screen, right?

There was a thread some days ago stating the same problem with 201109. It also showed some 'live-boot' error.

You should compare the MD5 sums or the torrent again. Maybe this time it ends with a new download or burned disc.
If not you should probably report this in the aforementioned thread or what the screen tells you.

The livecd that fails to boot on my main system booted and installed fine on my mini itx system, so I know it's not an issue with the download or burn, also installed fine using virtualbox.

My experience is GTX 550Ti video card will not allow normal boot on several newer Ubuntu or Mint distros till workaround.

Regarding the live cd boot;

At first I was removing 550Ti and installing older 9500 for os install.

Workaround for me was this: booting live cd Mint 12 KDE, Gnome or XFCE-201204, when you see splash screen “automatic boot in 10 seconds”, depress escape key. I landed on a menu with several choices, I stuck with first “start linux mint” . Depress tab key to change options.

End of last line read … quiet splash --
I changed to read …........ quiet splash nomodset acpi=off --
Depress enter to continue, I landed on live cd desktop where I could test or install.

Regarding boot once os is installed:

After many hours of reading through forums, what you see in this post solved the 550Ti issue for me.
