Liferea 1.8.3 - so much better than 1.6.5

Postby Myself on Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:58 am

I have updated Liferea from the version 1.6.5 in the normal Linux Mint repository to version 1.8.3 (which I got to like again while using Ubuntu 12.04 having given up on it due to version 1.6.5 in LMDE). Everything is so much faster in version 1.8.3 and no more lock-up and crashes. Version 1.6.5 was for me just a disaster.
CPU = U9300, 4GB RAM, Intel GM45 Graphics @ resolution 1366x768, 128GB internal drive, 6TB external storage, Main OS = LMDE Xfce 64bit UP4. 2nd OS = LMDE Xfce 64bit UP4, Other installed OSs = Bodhi 1.4.0, Ubuntu 10.04 & 12.04, Mandriva & Windows.

So totally agree!!!

Liferea's database management in 1.6.5 is absolutely diabolical. It is in fact so bad that I use Akregator ( which pulls in a load of KDE dependencies I don't really want on my Gtk installs ) or RSSOwl which is functionally ok but linked to one specific version of java, which again is unsatisfactory. I have yet to fully test Newsbeuter.

Offline RSS use is not well catered for in Linux unfortunately. I am happy to compile & install for test purposes. Is there a download on their homepage? Lazy sod I am, I'll look it up myself. :)
