Mint LMDE and VMware Fusion

Postby fmouse on Sat Apr 28, 2012 9:13 pm

VMware Fusion for the Mac offers a selection of OSes for the guest system in a drop down menu during the VM creation process. There are four options for Debian, v5 ("lenny") and Debian v6 ("squeeze"), each with 32 and 64 bit versions. Linux LMDE is none of the above, being based on Debian Testing, and there are no selections for any flavor of Mint in the list.

Does anyone know, or have any experience with how well Mint LMDE 201204 will work with the "Debian 6 64-bit" version spec in VMware Fusion?

I assume this spec probably controls the default allocation of memory and drive size, and probably the collection of vmware-tools supplied to integrate the guest with Fusion and with the host OS. I can inquire on the VMware forums with this question.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Honestly it doesn't make a difference. I use Debian v6 and it works just fine. One thing that is fustrating about VMWare Fusion is if the Guest tools breaks on newer release you are forced to buy a new version of Fusion. In that sense, Virtualbox is better.

Hi
I am using LMDE with open-vm-tools inside VMware fusion and everything works. When creating the VM I just selected Debian 6 - 64 Bit. Please Let me know if you need more info.
