OpenVZ on LMDE (with Update Pack 4, latest)

Postby Eko_taas on Sun Apr 29, 2012 2:42 pm

Seems that OpenVZ is not listed on packages?

Code: Select all
# apt-get -y install linux-image-openvz-amd64 vzctl vzquota vzdump
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package linux-image-openvz-amd64

(as per package manager "vzctl vzquota vzdump" all installed already, but kept in command just in case)

I would like to use my LMDE to test settings of my Debian Squeeze server, so I would need OpenVZ.

Should I change something on S/W sources or install manually ( e.g. http://packages.debian.org/en/squeeze/l ... envz-amd64 ). Or there is specific reason e.g. OpenVZ is not compatible with LMDE

Thanks in advance :)

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

check this please
4.8. Deprecated components

With the next release of Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 (codenamed wheezy) some features will be deprecated. Users will need to migrate to other alternatives to prevent trouble when updating to 7.0.

This includes the following features:

OpenVZ and Linux-Vserver: Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 will be the last release to include Linux kernel virtualization featuresets outside of mainline. This means that the OpenVZ and Linux-Vserver featuresets should be considered deprecated, and users should migrate to linux-2.6 upstream merged virtualization solutions like KVM, Linux Containers or Xen.

Thanks, tried Yahoo before asking and did not find that

Meanwhile added "squeeze main" to sources, loaded with apt-get and running /testing now LMDE with OpenVZ-kernel (GNome3 failed, but otherwise looks fine :-) ).

Seems that better to make 2nd partition for Debian Squeeze + OpenVZ for testing. OpenVZ is the only virtualization (nowdays) integrated to ISPConfig3 ( http://www.ispconfig.org/ )

well, glad you got it working but,
you should consider looking for alternatives (imo); openvz was declared deprecated and you won't want to rely on an unsupported app.
