Cant keep my LMDE-Cinnamon cursor theme set

Postby GeneC on Wed May 02, 2012 7:35 pm

I like to use the Black DMZ cursor theme. I can't keep it set in my LMDE/Testing/Cinnamon partition.
It always reverts to White.

I have it set in:
1. Cinnamon setting.
2. I checked in Gnome Shell (Tweak Tool ). Its set there.
3. I have it set here :arrow:
Code: Select all
gene@zordon ~ $ sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
There are 2 choices for the alternative x-cursor-theme (providing /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme).

  Selection    Path                                     Priority   Status
------------------------------------------------------------
  0            /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursor.theme   90        auto mode
* 1            /usr/share/icons/DMZ-Black/cursor.theme   30        manual mode
  2            /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursor.theme   90        manual mode

4. I checked here. :arrow:
usr/share/icons/default/index.theme(its symlinked to)=
/etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme
got
Code: Select all
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=DMZ-Black

5. gconf => cursor theme = dmz-black

I am out of ideas... :lol:

I guess there are a couple of desperate brute-force measures you could try:

(a) move the folder DMZ-White out of /usr/share/icons

or (perhaps better)

(b) replace the files in /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursors with copies of the ones in /usr/share/icons/DMZ-Black/cursors.

Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the dmz-cursor-theme package?

Brian

Took your advice and just removed DMZ-White from icons folder.
That worked for me, but not solved. Just a hack. :lol:

Tried uninstall/reinstall, that did not work.
Doesn't seem to be a problem for other. :?:

I had a problem with my Cinnamon cursors as well. It wanted to use a "split" scheme. Sometimes the black ones, sometimes the white ones. I wanted the DMZ white ones. I had it set in Cinnamon Settings and Advanced Settings and when I installed the DMZ cursor set is said it was setting it up as the default, like usual.

I'm back on MATE again, I never did resolve the cursor thing in Cinnamon. I quessed it had something to do with a not quite tight integration between Cinnamon and Gnome 3 yet.

This isn't just a cinnamon problem, i'm using gnome-shell and have the same issue.
Tried deleting DMZ-white & black from /usr/share/icons, but the problem still persists.
