dispcalGUI and colour calibration [SOLVED]

Postby clifford on Sun May 06, 2012 1:08 pm

Hi there

I've been using Ubuntu 11.10/12.04. I had my installation on one partition and always wanted to separate root and home out so i could easily switch between or reinstall distros.

since I was using cinnamon desktop on ubuntu i decided to give LMDE a shot. All is well apart from the installation of dispcalGUI http://dispcalgui.hoech.net/

I am a photographer and colour calibration of my monitor is critical for my printing process. In Ubuntu I was using dispcalGUI to great results. I would simply select the .deb package and it would load me into software centre and install.

In LMDE, this isnt the case. I've downloaded the .deb for debian squeeze (is this correct?) but when i right click on the file and open in GDebi Package Installer, I am presented with an explanation of the program but the install button is greyed out.

I installed Argyll within Synaptic but I still have the same problem. I tried zeroinstaller but get an error.

Its driving me nuts and the only thing that will prevent me taking this up as my distro.

Can anyone help me?

Regards

hi

i have it working now. if anyone has the same problem, i got round it by installing argyll in synaptic.

I then added python-wxgtk2.8 also with synaptic.

I then restarted.

then using zeroinstaller to install dispalGUI. the instructions for that part are here:

http://dispcalgui.hoech.net/0install/dispcalGUI.xml

I hope this helps anybody else in this situation.

the new version of dispcalGUI is a joy to use and works very well. makes you wonder about all those 'you cant colour calibrate in linux' posts.

cheers.
