Hidden system setting / Thunderbird updates and default apps

I don't know when this happened because I never used the function till recently.
But I click on a email address in a web page and Opera gets opened ....
OH ok I need to change the default.

I'm using LMDE 64 bit and Cinnamon ( delicious if I may say so )
After heaps of searching I found the settings hidden in SYSTEM INFO WHY THERE ???????

Ok well click on Default Apps and open email list ........ NO thunder bird ????

Well this is wrong but is it a bug or what

I just want to open want to click and send mail but this has got me

Anyone go any ideas or clues ????

Talking "Thunderbird are not go" for the second time I have an update that just won't complete.
Is this a Mint or Thunderbird issue

I had the same problem. I "fixed" it by installing Linux Mint 13 (maya) MATE 64-bit.
