Installing winff removed vlc

I installed LMDE today on a Dell latitude D810.

I've been going through the software manager getting what programs I want installed straightened out. I've come across some odd things. Using synaptic, I installed Winff, this uninstalled VLC. I know that there isn't a confilct between the two as I have them both installed on the computer I am on now(katya). Now when I try to uninstall mplayer, it wants to install mplayer2. Uninstalling Mintnanny also wants to uninstall mint-meta-common and mint-meta-xfce.

Whats going on here?
