Synaptic: missing verbose package descriptions

Is there a specific package, other than Synaptic itself, which enables verbose package descriptions to be shown in the lower pane of the Synaptic main window when a package is selected in the list, please? I ask because I'm no longer seeing those descriptions, only the one-liners, and I've removed a lot of unwanted packages this week. I've looked through the list of removed packages but can't immediately see which one it might be. Running LMDE Xfce. Many thanks for any kind help.
