Drag and Drop a fiile on a script in Nemo doesn't work

Postby rhododendronbusch on Sat Aug 31, 2013 2:22 am

Hello!

When I drag a file on a shell script in nemo (and drop it on that script) nothing happens. The script works from a terminal (without drag and drop) and has execution flags set. As far as I remember this behaviour worked in nautilus. Isn't it implemented in nemo yet or do I make a mistake somewhere?

I'm working on a Thinkpad E530 with LMDE 64 bit installed, using the Cinnamon desktop and nemo is in version 1.8.3+lmde.

Can anybody help?

Kind regards,
Michael

Any progress on this issue? Same problem on Linux Mint 16 (Petra), Cinnamon Edition. My shell script has the extension .sh and I made it executable using chmod +x.

Thanks, I reported the issue as a feature request — see https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/500.

Once upon a time I was asked if it was possible to create a launcher on the desktop that one could drag and drop a file to have it print.

I created the following launcher:
PrintFileIcon.png

Which creates the following desktop file:
cat ~/Desktop/PrintFile.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Comment=
Terminal=false
Name=PrintFile
Exec=lpr %f
Type=Application
Icon=openofficeorg3-printeradmin

With that you can drag a file to the desktop icon or to ~/Desktop/PrintFile and it will print.

Is this what you had in mind?

Thanks, the .desktop approach seems to work. However, support for shell scripts would still be nice.
