LibreOffice 4.3 (4.2) [SOLVED]
I do appreciate the quick update of Firefox (30 to 31) today, but I really miss an update of LibreOffice. LMDE is still at 4.1 version, while the actual version is 4.3.
I tried to activate the Testing repositories to do the update myself but I was asked to change too many packages, so I given up.

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
You're mixing a few things up. Firefox 31 is a security upgrade, LibreOffice 4.3 isn't--just a new release with new features. Hence you get Firefox quickly, while LibreOffice will take longer.
Few facts:
- LibreOffice 4.3 is still in experimental; it isn't even in unstable yet, so it's not close to going into testing: https://packages.qa.debian.org/libr/libreoffice.html
- If you didn't follow all that, useful to read the lifecyle of a Debian release (it has a few helpful diagrams): http://debian-handbook.info/browse/stab ... cycle.html
- Once LibreOffice 4.3 would arrive in testing, in the past on LMDE you would have had to wait till LMDE did a next UP (update pack) to get it on LMDE
If you've missed the news, there won't be any more UPs as LMDE will migrate from Debian testing as a package base to Debian stable: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2671#comment-111529
It may still be that LibreOffce 4.3 migrates to testing before testing gets frozen to become the eventual Debian 8--and you'd get it on LMDE that way.
Alternatives for now:
- You can download the .deb files from the LibreOffice website itself; 4.3 is available there
- You could compile it from source
- You could get it from Debian experimental

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
The Debian Lifecycle link is excellent. Thanks xenopeek! I particularly liked that the Debian Developer was depicted as a stick-man. Until I saw that the end user (that's me) looks just the same.
Re: LibreOffice 4.3
You can take 4.2.5 from Wheezy backports. It's probably easier to install.
Re: LibreOffice 4.3
Thanks Xenopeek and Killer.
I won't install directly .debs (I know how to do it, I did several times) because this way LO installs as LibreOffice4.2 (or 4.3), differently than the version in the repositories (just "libreoffice").
I tried the Killer's solution and activated the Weezy backports in mintsources:
but when I open synaptic no packages are available to update. Maybe I did something wrong?

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
That's because when you want to install a package from backport you need to say it explicitely.xfrank wrote: I tried the Killer's solution and activated the Weezy backports in mintsources:but when I open synaptic no packages are available to update. Maybe I did something wrong?Code: Select all

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
I tried, but I had dependency errors:
I guess I have to stay with LO 4.1 until the Mint team will complete the transition of LMDE to Debian Stable...
Code: Select all
xflmde xfrank # apt-get install -t wheezy-backports libreoffice

Creando árbol de dependencias
Leyendo la información de estado... Hecho

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
Do you need to do an "apt update" after activating backports? I dunno for sure. I'm asking because I had to do that after adding a repository on a LMDE boot flash stick that I'm testing with. Activating backports could be completely different.
Re: LibreOffice 4.3
I did. After changing the repositories always is recommended to do an apt-get update.
The question now is: anybody did recently an upgrade of LO by activating the weezy backports?

Re: LibreOffice 4.3
Why not simply install 4.2.6 from Debian Testing?
Re: LibreOffice 4.3
Thanks Monsta, I did!
1 - I added and activated the testing repos (opening the terminal, then mintsources):
deb http://packages.domain.com/ testing main
deb http://us.debian.org/debian/ testing non-free contrib main
2 - in the terminal I did an apt-get update, then apt-get install libreoffice, then apt-get install libreoffice-gnome (for the gnome integration)
3 - finally, I checked synaptic, here I found four packages of LO to update (including spanish translation), and I updated all.
All seems OK to me. I have LO 4.2.6.2!!!
I love Linux

Re: LibreOffice 4.3 (4.2)
Side note: it's better to use http.debian.net which will automatically redirect you to the fastest mirror:
And don't forget to remove Testing repos after you're done with the installation, or you may accidentally end up upgrading your LMDE to Testing.
Code: Select all
deb http://http.debian.net/debian testing main contrib non-free
