Automatic upgrade to Firefox 4 stable

Postby growdigital on Tue May 03, 2011 6:06 am

I've just made the switch from Ubuntu Xfce to LMDE Xfce. Must say that I am impressed.

I am trying to upgrade automatically to Firefox 4 stable, which was relatively easy to do with ubuntu by adding the stable ppa to the repositories.

How do I do this with LMDE? Do I have to install IceWeasel?

I have noodled briefly but simply managed to install IceWeasel 3.6....

many thanks, Jake

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Thank you but no joy, no upgrade to Firefox in Origin listing of Mozilla PPA :(

Will post on other post, thanks :)

Download Firefox from Mozilla, extract, create a shortcut to launch it, poof. Two minutes and you have Firefox which will update itself anytime Mozilla releases any updates.

Or you can just use Iceweasel.

$ apt-cache policy iceweasel
iceweasel:
Installed: 4.0.1-2
Candidate: 4.0.1-2

Firefox
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
Debian Sid KDE4.8.4 Kernel 3.4 Thinkpad R40 CPU Pentium M 1.3MHz RAM 2GB ATI Mobility 7500

Didn't realise it was that easy (though shame you can't simply apt-get ;)

Or you can just use Iceweasel.

This is what I've plumped for. Thanks for the info.
