Skype Notifications - removing Mono possible?

Post by Bonsaii »

Hi all,

New machine (Thinkpad 410s) and new LMDE 64Bit fresh install, but "old" problem.
Again, Skype notifications aren't working at all.

With the prior system removing Mono did the trick.
If I now want to do the same in Synaptic, a ton of
other packages would be removed as well.

Does any one know, whether Mono can be removed
without breaking the system?

Thanks to all developers and helpers,
I love LMDE,

Bonsaii

Sure, on the default install if you select to remove the package mono-runtime it will remove all of mono's libraries. That is not an issue. Three applications on the default install will get removed as they were built with mono: Banshee (music player), Giver (file sharer), and Tomboy (desktop notes). If you don't use any of these, go ahead an purge mono :D

Rhythmbox is an easy, mono free, alternative for Banshee. Other alternatives: http://alternativeto.net/software/bansh ... form=linux
For Tomboy there are lots of alternatives also: http://alternativeto.net/software/tombo ... form=linux

Dear Vincent,

Thank you tons for your quick reply.

It worked and now Skype notifications are working as well.

Did I mention that I love LMDE and - more importantly -
the people behind it all?
