Hi everybody,
I'm a Newbee in Linux Mint and have just changed from UBUNTU 11.04 to LMDE and updated to Pack 3 with Kernel 3.0.0.1
So far everythings works fine, but I can't get my VMWare Player installed, correction: installation works, but when I start, it says some Kernel Modules need to be compiled. I click "Install" and get an error message
In the log the last two lines show:
Okt 02 16:46:04.799: app-140394352895744| Building module with command: /usr/bin/make -C /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmmon-only auto-build SUPPORT_SMP=1 HEADER_DIR=/lib/modules/3.0.0-1-amd64/build/include CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.5 GREP=/usr/bin/make IS_GCC_3=no VMCCVER=4.5.3
Okt 02 16:46:09.756: app-140394352895744| Failed to compile module vmmon!
I guess this VMWare is not compatible to the new kernel, however, can everybody help me?
Best Regards
Hartmut

Re: VMWare Player does not work
I have the same problem with VMware Workstation on Linux Mint 12.

Re: VMWare Player does not work
From research, it appears to be something to do with vmware not being comatible with openGL in Gnome 3 (whatever that is).
Anyone know a workaround?

Re: VMWare Player does not work
you may need to apply a patch to be able to compile for the newer Linux headers (also 3.0.0).
See: http://weltall.heliohost.org/wordpress/ ... 2-and-3-3/
Also it may turn out that the USB devices disappear after a reboot.
Adding the two "overrides" mentioned in: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1875412#1875412
solved the problem for me.
