LMDE-Debian Stable - Backports sources list -error [Solved]

Postby GeneC on Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:05 pm

Hi all!

I just set up a seperate partiton with LMDE (64bit-gnome) this time tracking Debian Stable. I followed "life in the grey's" tutorial.
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/497
and with "zerozero's" help.

All went great.
Now have Gnome 2.3 again.
I added Debian 'Backports' to get the more up to date application upgrades.
http://backports-master.debian.org/Instructions/

Code: Select all
deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main

My active sources list.
Code: Select all
gene@zordon ~ $ inxi -r
Repos:     Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/linuxmint-packages/ debian main upstream import
           deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/stable main contrib non-free
           deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
           deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free
           deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main
           deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main

I have what is not really a big problem but an 'annoyance'

When running an update (from synaptic or CLI) I get this 'failed to fetch' error?
Failed to fetch http://ftp.us.debian.org/stable/dists/m ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 199.6.12.70 80]
Failed to fetch http://ftp.us.debian.org/stable/dists/m ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 199.6.12.70 80]
Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I tried changing 'stable' to "squeeze', no change same problem (but of course says)
Failed to fetch http://ftp.us.debian.org/squeeze/dists/ ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 199.6.12.70 80]

Does anyone see anything wrong with my sources list. ?

Thanks.

Your list is fine. The 'us' mirror tends to have issues, try using a different mirror.

Debian worldwide mirror sites : http://www.debian.org/mirror/list
Debian Sid KDE4.8.4 Kernel 3.4 Thinkpad R40 CPU Pentium M 1.3MHz RAM 2GB ATI Mobility 7500
Debian - "If you can't apt-get something, it isn't useful or doesn't exist"

Thanks for the tip Craig.

I tried Canada (ca), Germany (de), UK (uk). Same error for each. I'll try again later.
Its not a big deal, just an annoyance.

OK

Found my mistake.
Should be
Code: Select all
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free

Not
Code: Select all
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/squeeze main contrib non-free

No errors
