BOINC and Debian Mint 64 bit problem

Just installed LMDE yesterday and tried to install BOINC. It runs fine but will not attach to any projects via BOINCSTATS/BAM!. The event log reports the same error each time: Bad signature for URL and then gives the URL of each project.
Apparently, this is a known 64-bit specific bug in BOINC:

That has allegedly been patched. However, the patched version is not in the repositories, nor is the testing version of the next release. Consequently, BOINC happily sits there doing nothing.
Has anyone (a) encountered this bug, (b) fixed it, or (c) know how to request the repository version of BOINC be fixed? Thx.
