MySql problems

Postby roboticist on Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:44 am

I just installed LMDE for the first time and ran into a snag trying to install/configure LAMP.

Mind you, this boots up from a 60GB USB drive. (I used to use Ubuntu but wanted a more Debian installation.)

When I try to run

mysql -u root

I get:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

I've installed the server and the client, but can't seem to start mysqld. ps verifies it is not running. Any suggestions?

Just on the wild side, did you try re-booting to see if it comes up?

Did you do a conventional install as in:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install  apache2  php5  libapache2-mod-php5

sudo apt-get install  mysql-server mysql-client  php5-mysql

Optional:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
