I'am not from the Moon, and using Linux long enougth to be a little bit advanced user. (LMDE) is a rolling distribution, so it's updating itself and continuesly. My PC:
ASUS P2-99B (ZX) AT + Tualatin Award BIOS Patched
CPU: PIII-S 1400/133 + Abit SlotKET III FC-PGA2 Modified, 105/35 1100MHz

The driver is NVIDIA aprooved "173xx" series for NV 5500, that's the only driver I have installed for NVIDIA. Headers linux-headers-3.2.....i386.deb were included too, same as linux-image-3.2.....i386.deb, linux-manual-3.2......i386.deb, linux-source-3.2.....i386.deb, linux-doc-3.2.....i386.deb. Even with my current linux kernel I can't run X after nvidia-config was running. So I didn't touch anything now, I had tried to reinstall NVIDIA driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.35-pkg1.run for new/different linux kernels, but it was gliching after unpack completed with error (Never ever before with other Linuxes) . I tried to delete all non-free nvidia driver & accessories and install the nouveau driver, same I can't run X. I have Linux kernel compilled by me (from the Original) for that exact PC, it's running very fast to compare with original, but as I sad with "xorg.conf" file deleted only and low colors range, same like all other linux kernels. LMDE makes me crazy, so much problems from nothing, it's gliching with all PC's I have old or new doesn't metter. The Mate and the rolling distribution that is thing moves me to use LMDE. I'am planing to move back to SUSE with MATE (exist now), same nice green colour, easy upgrades and never ever hardware problems with all PCs I have.
