Canon mx300 series scan not working

Hi,
I have a Canon pixma mx308 (mx300 series) all in one printer. I have managed to install gutenprint to make printing work. However, when I open simplescan to try and scan document, it does not recognise my scanner.
Canon does not offer Linux driver for this model. Does anyone have a solution for me?
