fglrx-leagcy-driver w/ 880G/HD4250 in LMDE 32-bit

I have tried so many ways to get ATI drivers working for my AMD 880G/HD4250 integrated motherboard graphics. I've tried installing the drivers from Debian experimental repo as well as downloading the latest 13.1 legacy drivers directly from the AMD website. I can get the drivers to install and load into LMDE desktop environment but when it tries to access 3D acceleration for things like compositing or loading a game (TF2, League via Wine, etc) it crashes the system with artifacts. It also has trouble playing video (AVI, MKV, H.264) with choppy things.
