ASRock Vision HT 311D
I was using Ubuntu 12.04 on the Samsung laptop. The laptop crashed probably twice a day. This never happened with the Windows 7 on the same laptop. I tried out memtest86, updating the BIOS, but to no luck. There were some application (e.g. Claws Mail) which were destroying regularly all settings when the laptop crashed but in general I still could work. Due to all the this decision within Ubuntu I switched to LMDE. Now my laptop crashed almost every 15 minutes. Nothing in the logs, no ping possible from a remote computer, no kernel panic, just a plain freeze. I had to setup the other mentioned computer for someone else and the raw LMDE crashed quite regularly too. What finally helped:
Using Kernel 3.10.5
I frist tried to use the config from 3.2 (the current default kernel from LMDE), but somehow there is about 1 GByte of Modules lying around after compiling. Finally I just used the default config and added my WLAN driver and FUSE support.
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel ... 0.5.tar.xz
- Code: Select all
sudo make modules_install
sudo make install
I did this on both systems and since then, they are running without any crash anymore. I don't know the true reason (perhaps the HD4000 GPU) but it may help someone else too.
