NVIDIA Driver

Postby tb75252 on Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:47 pm

I have Linux Mint Debian Edition, 64-bit.

I just installed a new graphics card, NVIDIA GeForce GT620, and now would like to install the appropriate manufacturer's drivers.

A search for "nvidia" using Synaptic Package Manager brings up many packages.

Which one do I install? (PS: I would prefer using Synaptic Package Manager rather than some convoluted CLI command...)

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

G'Day, I do not use "Linux Mint Debian Edition, 64-bit" but if there is a Driver Manager in Systems Settings then I would use the recomended driver. Smokey

Unfortunately there is no Driver Manager under System Settings...

Synaptic will allow you to install incompatible nVidia drivers. Since you did not state your DE, I will state that in LMDE Mate 64-bit, you can install the correct driver from the menu by System >> Preferences >> Device Driver Manager on my installation.

Another way to install the correct driver is by the simple CLI command:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
LMDE Mate 64-bit, LM16 Mate 64-bit
Debian Xfce 64-bit, Xubuntu 13.10 64-bit, Xubuntu Trusty Tahr 64-bit, Antergos Xfce 64-bit, PCLinuxOS LXDE 64-bit
