Postby no_war on Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:17 am

Guys I am a newbie in linux and tried to install the propriety drivers using sgfxi for my radeon hd 5450 graphics card on Linux Mint Debian 201403 but got error during the installation. Now after the restart Cinnamon has crashed. After checking the logs of fglrx I got the following:

Check if system has the tools required for installation.
Uninstalling any previously installed drivers.

Creating symlink /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/13.251/source ->

I don't know what to do now. Please help me out here.

According to this thread, the latest version of sgfxi should already include a patch for this issue.
So update sgfxi first. Run this as root:
Code: Select all
sgfxi -U
and then try installing the drivers again.

If the problem persists, I recommend reporting it in that thread (with log attached).

It seems that sgfxi update automatically.

I have the same problem (i think). I don't understant why, with the same kernel (3.11), fglrx works fine with ubuntu, and not with debian. Is there not a way to make it works, as it works in ubuntu?

I also tryed with the 3.12 kernel (adding the jessie repository) and it makes no difference.

What could we do, to make it work?

If you don't mind helping sgfxi author in dealing with this issue and making sgfxi better, then please report it at this forum.
Before reporting, first update sgfxi as root:
Code: Select all
sgfxi -U
and run this (also as root) to collect some info:
Code: Select all
sgfxi --debugger
and then attach the resulting .tar.gz file to your post.

I'm pretty sure you should upload the .gz file to their ftp, like it was told, and continue the discussion to get any help.
