Postby 52ROSt on Wed May 21, 2014 2:29 am

I leave this message for other who need to activate the middle button for:
Machine: ThinkPad x40
SW: LMDE MATE 201403

Successful solution:

Follow the solution described in
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_configure_the_TrackPoint#Scrolling
under heading: xorg.conf.d
Neglect comment concerning comments in respect to Ubuntu.
Results:
Middle button functions:
Libre Office documents, pdf-files, and Firefox:
    Vertical and horizontal scrolling
Cursor does not change to scroll indicator
    Firefox additionally:
middle click on link opens link in new tab = perfect!!!
middle click on tab (somewhere) closed the tab
Note:
When clicking hold pressed the middle button, the cursor does not change its appearance to indicate scrolling function
All packages installed for first attempted approach with gpointing-device-settings were kept installed.

Unsuccessfull approach:

Using
gpointing-device-settings
did not work. Reason is not understood
Additionally installed packages:
    xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
    xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-dbc
    xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-de
If someone wants to try is, here is information on how to get this package:
