Black Screen After GRUB--Not Finding Hardware

Post by RainehDaze »

Earlier today, I decided to remove 'normal' Mint, and replace it with LMDE. Had trouble installing and had to edit the command line so it would boot with software rendering in order to install, but I thought that would be the end of it once it was properly installed.

Same problem booting again--so I again opt for software rendering, and get the proprietary drivers, and hope this fixes the problem. It... has not. Nvidia-detect can't find the GPU, and normal booting seems both unable to find that and unwilling to use integrated graphics.

Is there some way to make the system find the things rather than using half my CPU to display a static webpage?

The graphics card that isn't being found is a GeForce GTX 760M (and I am glad I haven't removed the stickers stating the hardware from this)

Code: Select all

PCI Utils? Found the GPU. Nice to know it hasn't detached itself in the install process.

But...

Code: Select all

name@computer ~ $ nvidia-detect
No NVIDIA GPU detected.
Further complicating things, according to the system settings info panel, the graphics controller is the integrated graphics--so it should be displaying something, rather than a black screen once it boots.

Can you possibly try and disable that integrated graphics controller in BIOS for starters?
