Poulsbo: Is it doable?

Post by pppelemoo »

I have an Acer 751h with the infamous Poulsbo chipset.
I'm currently using Helena (great) but am willing to try LMDE on a test partition.
So, my first question is: is LMDE a viable distro with this kind of chipset? otherwise, are there drivers or a patch to make them work?
My second question is: Are there any problem in dual booting LMDE?

Thanks!

HOWTO: Compiling Intel Atom Poulsbo GMA 500 graphics driver on Debian

I dual boot with LMDE and LM 9. Actually I triple boot, but I haven't started WinXP in 19 months, which is about a year before installing LMDE. Maybe WinXP still works, I do not know. But LM 9 still works, I boot into it weekly.

Thank you dawgdoc.
I did see that guide but sincerely hoped in something simpler.. Now I've taken the time to read through the entire post and found the bottom line "Lastly if you are lazy and don’t want to go through this entire process...". That's me. :)
We do share a similar setup. I'm booting into Xp just to rewrite the boot sequence (preferred to stick with MBR) but - I can't remember why now - I couldn't easily upgrade to Mint 9. Anyway, Mint 8 is perfectly fine..
So, thanks again.
