When I used to use Ubuntu, I was able to easily find my Network Printer, which was attached to a NAS. When I tried out Crunchbang, and then LMDE, I had trouble accessing/finding the Network Printer. I couldn't browse to my network printer and didn't even have an option to find a Network Printer in the Printing administration section.
After reading the forums I eventually figured out that Debian & LMDE don't install the same networking programs/protocols installed as Ubuntu, and therefore I needed to install them in order to connect to my Network Printer.
I had to install the following programs and their dependencies:
smbclient # needed to communicate with network printer (pulls in other samba dependencies)
python-smbc # allows user to add network printers from the printing gui
nfs-common # allows connection to my nas via nfs (doesn't need to be installed if connecting via samba)
After doing this I was able to successfully add my Network Printer using the Printing administration gui.
Hope this helps.
