Suspend issues with PAE kernel

My laptop would not return from suspend - completely black unlit screen, no response to keyboard or network connections.

This seems to be an issue with the PAE kernel, and it seems to work OK with the non-PAE 32 bit kernel. I have not tried 64 bit.

Its a solved issue as for as I am concerned as I do not need PAE on my ageing laptop: I am posting in case it helps anyone else with the same issue.

Same issue, same symptoms here. Problems started after upgrade to 3.0.0-1-686-pae. LMDE 32-bit.

PS! Removing fglrx drivers and installing mesa drivers didn't help.

Does it work for you with the non-pae kernel?

Worked perfectly with non-pae kernels 2.6.38-2 and 2.6.32-5.
