I think Wine must be put inside the distro as an optional package to install - probably most of us will install it - and be well tested for AMD, ATI and Intel graphics and integrated audio.
Even Sabayon has its own wine implementation with MS WOS Nvidia and Ati drivers.
With Ubuntu I had less problems with wine, this, and not being able to change - aparently yes, but it does not work - to VLC as default video player are the only things I have found to be improved in LMDE.
