Upgrade Intel Graphics driver

Postby plantperson on Thu Oct 20, 2011 6:12 pm

Hello all,
Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but how do I update the driver for my Intel graphics chipset?
Here is the inxi info for my card:
Code: Select all
Graphics:  Card Intel Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller X.Org 1.10.1 Res: 1680x1050@59.9hz
GLX Renderer Mesa DRI Intel 945GME  x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version 1.4 Mesa 7.10.2 Direct Rendering Yes

Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau xserver-xorg-video-nv

sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Reboot or restart X :)

If it's not already up to date.

Hmm... getting some errors.

First:
Code: Select all
E: Unable to locate package xserver-xorg-video-nv

Second:
Code: Select all
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libgl1-mesa-dri : Breaks: xserver-xorg-core (< 2:1.10.2-2) but 2:1.10.1-2 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

I suspect this may be because I've not been able to run a system update in months... can't use Synaptic since they removed the upgrade button, and Mint Update is broken ("E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages."). I haven't tried updating through apt-get because there are two packages that break my system if they get upgraded and I've not been sure how to exclude them.

If it helps at all, I'm trying to update the driver in order to fix a Wine problem, previously discussed here: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=13930

Just a comment, the command 'sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau xserver-xorg-video-nv' does not need to be run - these are nvidia drivers.

What version of Linux MInt are you running?
